The National Human Rights Commission has commenced the development of Human Rights Agenda for Nigeria .
This is a follow up of the 2019 Human Rights Summit held between 8 and 9 December last year.


Welcoming the team of experts constituting the Technical Committee on the Agenda in Abuja Thursday, Executive Secretary National Human Rights Commission , Tony Ojukwu esq. noted that it has become imperative for the Commission to intensify its advisory role of developing an annual agenda for all tiers of government particularly at state and federal levels to guide their human rights programmes.

According to the Executive Secretary beginning from 2020 , the NHRC will take into consideration emerging human rights trends in the country as well as reports of the activities of CSO's, regional and international bodies to present human rights agenda for Nigeria.

The annual human rights agenda he also disclosed will be used to monitor the progress of the implementation of the National Action Plan for the promotion and protection NAP.
The 2020 Agenda will cover specific human rights themes such as
Civil and Political Rights
Economic and Social Rights
Women, Children and other Vulnerable Groups
Humanitarian Response to Insurgency
Building a Culture of Accountability and
The Role of the Role of the Media in the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights
The meeting drew experts from CSO's Government Agencies and the academia.
