The Executive Secretary National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Tony Ojukwu Esq. has charged Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to programme their intervention activities towards addressing a clearly identifiable challenge on human rights as indicated in the National Action Plan (NAP) for the promotion and protection of human rights in Nigeria.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen has expressed the the commitment of the federal government towards protecting the rights of the disappeared and their families,

The insurgency and conflict in the North-Eastern States of Nigeria for over a decade has led to the loss of lives and properties and the displacement of millions of people. The Boko Haram insurgency has seen some of the worst Human Rights violations in Nigeria which have also spread across the Sahel region. A lot of these violations have been recognised but most individual cases remain undocumented as a result of poor access and lack of on the ground data collection specific to Human Rights.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have announced the launch of a project aimed at Promoting Reconciliation, Reintegration and Transitional Justice in North Eastern Nigeria.
