1.0 As a response to the covid-19 pandemic, the federal and state governments in Nigeria have put in place several measures including covid-19 Regulations 2020 and other Directives to cope with the pandemic. The Regulations and Directives also empowered the security agencies to ensure compliance and enforcement of the stay-at-home order following the lockdown. Given its mandate for the promotion and protection of human rights, the National Human Rights Commission on 30th March, issued Advisory to security agencies to respect human rights in the enforcement of Covid-19 Regulations.

The 2019 International Human Rights Day celebrations brought out management and staff of the NHRC led by the Executive Secretary Tony Ojukwu Esq alongside other stakeholders to the streets of Abuja. The theme of the Day Youth Standing Up for Human Rights is an acknowledgement of the role of young people in the promotion and protection of human rights.

The 2019 Human Rights Summit and Award organised by the National Human Rights commission in Collaboration with other Stakeholders took Place Between 8-10th December 2019. The summit which attracted over 250 participants all over the country has as its Theme: ADOPTING RIGHTS- BASED APPROACH IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AGENDA.
The outcome of the Summit according to Executive Secretary, NHRC Tony Ojukwu Esq will assist Nigeria in fulfilling its international regional and national human rights obligations.
